Saint Mary's School
ENGLISH JUNIOR
St. Mary’s Junior School is a small branch of St. Mary’s School, which belongs to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The Sisters, who originally came from Italy and various parts of Europe and America, brought with them a rich legacy of faith and education. Over the years, the school has grown and flourished, with the primary mission of providing education to underprivileged children while instilling a deep love for God.
The Sisters arrived in Cyprus in 1923, with the aim of offering education to the island’s poor children. Their dedication and sacrifice for this mission in Cyprus have borne fruit, and today, we celebrate the legacy they have built. The English Junior School was established in the 1980s, and thanks to the selfless commitment of the Sisters, it has a rich history. The school has now reached the milestone of 100 years, with thousands of children passing through its doors, receiving an excellent education and building successful careers.
At the Junior School, we are dedicated to helping our students grow and learn. We focus on core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Religion, Greek, French, Science, Social Studies, Music, Computers and Physical Education. Our team of excellent teachers is committed to guiding each child towards achieving their goals.
The school also values its strong relationship with parents, who actively support the school through the Parents' Association and contribute to extra-curricular activities. We strive to create an environment where children can study freely and joyfully, which is what makes us unique.
Dear Parents and Students,
It is my heartfelt pleasure to welcome you to St. Mary’s Junior School, a place where faith, learning, and community come together. Our school is part of the broader St. Mary’s family, founded by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who have dedicated their lives to serving others through education and compassion.
Since their arrival in Cyprus in 1923, the Sisters have worked tirelessly to provide quality education to children in need, and their legacy continues to inspire us today. At the Junior School, we are proud to carry forward this mission, offering a well-rounded education that includes subjects like English, Mathematics, Religion, Greek, French, Science, and more. Our goal is to help each child grow not only academically but also spiritually and emotionally, guided by our dedicated teachers and supported by our wonderful parents.
As we celebrate 100 years of nurturing young minds, we remain committed to creating a warm and joyful environment where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Thank you for being part of our St. Mary’s family.
In closing, I encourage you with these words from the Bible: “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Together, let us embark on another year of learning, growth, and success.
With warm regards,
SR. ROLY THOMAS KAITHAKULATH, FMSC
